My Body Given for You

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19) I think we can never meditate enough on Jesus’ death on the Cross. And now, His resurrection invites us not just to reflect on His gift, but also to live into His gift. This past weekend, on Holy Saturday, I...

Sealed

Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate, and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’ Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to...

Subtle but Essential

And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19) In a recent podcast we recorded with Jon and Tristen Collins, Jon mentioned something profound his colleague, Tim Mackie from the Bible Project, once told him: “You don’t have a body. You are a body.” We live during a time...

Facing The Tomb

Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb. Matthew 27:59-61 (CSB) This year, with a pandemic disrupting all of life, we approach Easter Sunday disoriented. Christians around the...
